📋 Step-by-Step Instructions
Power Off & Prep
Completely shut down your iPad Air. Place it on a soft surface screen-up. If the glass is cracked, cover it with clear packing tape.
Heat One Edge
Apply heat to one edge for 2-3 minutes. Start with the top edge (away from home button on older models) or a long edge on newer models.
Create Opening with Suction Cup
Attach a suction cup to the heated edge. Pull up while inserting a thin pick or pry tool into the gap. Insert only a few millimeters.
Work Around the Perimeter
Heat each section as you go. Slide your pick to cut through adhesive, leaving additional picks in place to prevent re-sealing.
- Home button models: Touch ID/home button cable near bottom
- Air 4/5: Cameras at top, antenna cables on sides
Lift the Screen Assembly
For home button models, lift from top. For Air 4/5, lift from bottom. The screen will still be connected by flex cables.
Disconnect Battery
Remove the shield over the battery connector. Use a plastic spudger to disconnect the battery — this prevents accidental shorts.
Disconnect Display Cables
Remove bracket(s) covering display connectors. Carefully pry each connector straight up. For home button models, also disconnect the home button cable and transfer it to the new screen.
Transfer Components
Home button/Touch ID must be transferred from old screen to new. On Air 4/5, there's no home button but check for any brackets that need moving.
Clean Frame & Test
Remove old adhesive with isopropyl alcohol. Connect the new screen and test before final installation. Check touch response, display, and Touch ID.
Apply Adhesive & Seal
Disconnect battery, apply new adhesive strips, remove backing, and carefully press the screen into place. Apply firm, even pressure around all edges.
