iPad Battery Replacement Guide

iPad not holding a charge? Battery replacement on iPads is one of the most difficult DIY repairs. Here's what you need to know.

⏱️ 2-3 hours 💪 Very Difficult 💰 $25-50 in parts
🚨 Serious Warning:
  • iPad batteries are large and dangerous if punctured
  • The battery is glued directly to the back case
  • You must remove the screen first (which is also glued)
  • This is one of the hardest DIY repairs — consider professional help

🤔 Should You DIY This?

Honestly? iPad battery replacement is brutal. Here's why:

  • Two glued components: Screen AND battery are both adhered
  • Risk of damage: Easy to crack screen during removal
  • Battery prying: One wrong move can puncture it
  • Time investment: 2-3 hours for first-timers

If you're experienced with iPad screen repairs, you can do this. If not, we strongly recommend professional service.

2

Disconnect the Battery

Locate the battery connector on the logic board. Remove any shields and disconnect it before proceeding.

3

Apply Heat to Battery

The battery is glued to the back case. Apply heat to the BACK of the iPad (flip it over) to soften the adhesive underneath.

4

Pry Battery Carefully

Use plastic tools ONLY. Apply isopropyl alcohol under the edges to help dissolve adhesive. Work slowly. Never bend the battery.

⚠️ Critical: If the battery starts to bulge, bend, or get hot — STOP. Take it to a professional immediately.
