iPhone Mirroring — Game Changer

This is Sequoia's flagship feature. Open the iPhone Mirroring app on Mac (sign in same Apple ID as iPhone). Your iPhone screen appears on Mac. You can:

  • Click apps to open them
  • Type with Mac keyboard
  • Drag-and-drop files between iPhone and Mac
  • iPhone stays locked — physically secure

Use cases: respond to texts without picking up phone, access an iPhone-only app, drag photos from iPhone to Mac instantly.

Window Tiling — Finally

macOS finally has built-in window snapping (PowerToys-style on Windows for years). Drag a window:

  • To left edge → left half
  • To right edge → right half
  • To top → full screen
  • To corners → quarters
  • Cmd+Option+arrow keys (any direction)

Or use the green window button in any window — long-press to see tiling options.

Passwords App — Standalone

Apple finally split iCloud Keychain into its own app. Features:

  • Search passwords, passkeys, Wi-Fi passwords
  • Verification codes (replaces 2FA app)
  • Suggest strong passwords
  • Cross-platform: iOS, iPadOS, Mac, Windows (via iCloud for Windows)

For users who didn't want to pay for 1Password or Bitwarden, the Passwords app is a free, native, well-designed option.

Apple Intelligence on Mac

Same features as iOS 18: Writing Tools, Image Playground, Genmoji, Smarter Siri, Photo Cleanup. Available across all macOS apps. Requires M-series Mac.

Video Conferencing Improvements

FaceTime and any video conferencing app (Zoom, Teams, Google Meet):

  • Customizable backgrounds (blur, replace)
  • Presenter overlay (you stay visible while sharing screen)
  • Reactions: thumbs up, hearts, fireworks via gestures
  • Move yourself in the picture-in-picture preview

New Wallpapers and Aesthetic

Sequoia's mountain-themed wallpapers reference Sequoia National Park. Updated app icons. Refined Control Center. Cosmetic but pleasant.

What's Missing in Sequoia

  • iPhone Mirroring requires Mac and iPhone on same WiFi (no remote use)
  • Apple Intelligence still has rate limits (heavy users hit them)
  • Some third-party apps don't yet support Window Tiling
