How to Create a Genmoji
- Open Messages, Notes, or any app with text input
- Tap the smiley face on the keyboard
- Tap the Genmoji icon (or scroll to top of emoji panel)
- Type a description: 'a happy avocado holding a coffee'
- iPhone generates 4-6 Genmoji options
- Pick one, tap to insert
- Optionally save the Genmoji for reuse
What Makes Good Genmoji Prompts
- Specific subjects: 'a dog wearing glasses', 'a tomato in a tuxedo'
- Add context: 'tired Monday morning' (creates a tired character)
- Descriptive emotion: 'overjoyed cat winning a race'
- Combine objects: 'taco riding a skateboard'
- Mention a person: If they're in your Photos app, you can reference them by name
Avoid: real people you don't know, copyrighted characters (Apple won't generate them), violent or NSFW content (blocked).

Are Genmoji Sent as Real Emojis?
No — Genmoji are sent as stickers. They look like emojis but aren't part of the Unicode emoji set. Implications:
- Receivers on Apple devices see them perfectly
- Receivers on Android see a generic image (still recognizable)
- If forwarded outside Apple ecosystem, may show as image attachment
Privacy of Genmoji
Genmoji generation happens on-device (no data sent to Apple). Even if you reference a person in your Photos, that person info stays on your iPhone. Apple's privacy stance is meaningful here.
