📋 Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Power Off & Backup
Power off your iPhone 13 completely. This repair doesn't erase your data, but it's good practice to back up before opening your phone. Once off, you're ready to start.
Step 2: Remove Bottom Pentalobe Screws
Remove the two pentalobe P2 screws on either side of the Lightning port at the bottom. Keep these screws in a safe place—they're important for water sealing and easy to lose.
Step 3: Heat the Display Edges
The iPhone 13's OLED display uses strong waterproof adhesive. Apply heat with a hair dryer or heat gun on medium for 1-2 minutes on each edge. Focus on the bottom and sides where adhesive is thickest.
Step 4: Create an Opening Gap
Apply a suction cup to the bottom center of the screen. Pull upward steadily while pressing down on the aluminum frame. You should feel the adhesive release—you'll hear a small pop when it breaks.
Step 5: Insert Opening Picks
Once you have a gap, insert plastic opening picks. Start at the bottom and work around the left side. The display connectors are on the right, so avoid that side until last. Use multiple picks to keep tabs open as you work.
Step 6: Open Display Like a Book
Gently lift the bottom of the screen and swing it open upward. Prop it at about 90 degrees—don't fully separate it yet as the ribbon cables are still connected at the top.
Step 7: Disconnect Display Cable Bracket
You'll see the display connector bracket at the top of the device. Remove the 5 tri-point Y000 screws. Carefully disconnect the three ribbon connectors by lifting them gently with a spudger.
Step 8: Disconnect Battery Connector
Locate the battery connector on the left side. Remove the small bracket (2-3 screws) and disconnect the battery cable using a plastic spudger. This prevents short circuits while you work.
Step 9: Remove Old Battery
The battery is held with adhesive strips underneath. Look for the pull-tabs and gently pull them to lift the battery. If tabs break, carefully use a plastic spudger to pry it out. Never pierce or bend the battery case.
Step 10: Clean Battery Compartment
Remove any remaining adhesive residue from the battery compartment. Use a plastic spudger to scrape away old strips. Ensure the surface is completely clean and flat.
Step 11: Apply New Adhesive Strips
Install fresh adhesive strips in the battery compartment. Position them with pull-tabs pointing toward the top for easy removal next time. Press down firmly on all strips.
Step 12: Install New Battery
Carefully lower the new 3227 mAh battery into position. Press firmly along all edges to ensure strong adhesive contact. The battery should sit flush and secure in the compartment.
Step 13: Reconnect Battery Connector
Reconnect the battery cable by aligning it with the connector and pressing down until it clicks. Replace the battery connector bracket and tighten its screws. Verify the connection is firm and secure.
Step 14: Reconnect Display Cables
Reconnect all three display ribbon cables in reverse order of removal. Make sure each one seats fully with an audible click. OLED connectors are critical—a loose connection causes display problems.
Step 15: Replace Display Cable Bracket
Replace the 5 tri-point screws holding the display connector bracket. Tighten snugly but not forcefully—over-tightening can damage the circuit board.
Step 16: Power On & Test Display
Power on your iPhone 13 and verify the display and battery before sealing:
- OLED display shows image properly
- No dark spots or discoloration
- Touch responsive across entire screen
- Face ID works
- Battery percentage shows correctly in Settings
- Device charges properly
Step 17: Apply Display Adhesive
Once all tests pass, shut down the device. Apply fresh adhesive strips around the display perimeter. Most kits include pre-cut strips that position along each edge.
Step 18: Lower & Seal Display
Gently lower the OLED display into place. Press firmly around all edges for 10-15 seconds per section to ensure strong adhesion and water sealing.
Step 19: Replace Bottom Screws & Finish
Replace the two pentalobe screws at the bottom beside the Lightning port. Tighten firmly but don't over-tighten. Do a final visual check—the display should sit perfectly flush with no gaps.
