iPhone 12 Battery Replacement Guide

Step 1: Power Off & Backup

Power off your iPhone 12 completely. Consider backing up your data first, though this repair doesn't erase the device. Once powered off, you're ready to begin.

Step 2: Remove Bottom Screws

Remove the two pentalobe P2 screws on either side of the Lightning port. Keep these in a safe place. They're critical for water resistance.

Step 3: Heat the Display Edges

The iPhone 12's OLED display uses strong adhesive. Apply heat with a hair dryer or heat gun on medium setting for 1-2 minutes along each edge. The bottom and sides need the most heat.

Step 4: Create an Opening Gap

Apply a suction cup to the bottom center of the screen. Pull upward with steady pressure while pressing down on the frame. Listen and feel for the adhesive to release—you'll hear a small pop.

Step 5: Insert Opening Picks & Work Around Edges

Once you have a gap, insert plastic picks. Start at the bottom and sides, working slowly around the perimeter. The OLED display on the iPhone 12 is delicate—move patiently and apply more heat if needed.

Step 6: Open Display to 90 Degrees

Gently lift the screen and open it like a book, keeping it propped at about 90 degrees. Don't fully separate—the ribbon cables are still connected at the top.

Step 7: Disconnect Display Connector Bracket

You'll see the display cable bracket. Remove the 5 screws (tri-point Y000) and carefully disconnect all three ribbon connectors. Work gently—OLED connectors can be delicate.

Step 8: Disconnect Battery

Locate the battery connector on the left side. Remove the bracket (2-3 screws) and use a plastic spudger to disconnect the battery cable. This prevents short circuits while you work.

Step 9: Remove Old Battery

The battery is held with adhesive strips. Look for the pull-tabs and gently pull to lift the battery. If tabs break, use a plastic spudger to carefully pry the battery out. Be patient—never puncture the battery case.

Step 10: Clean Battery Compartment

Remove any remaining adhesive residue from the battery compartment. Use a plastic spudger to scrape away old strips. The surface should be clean and flat for the new battery to seat properly.

Step 11: Apply Fresh Adhesive

Install new adhesive strips in the battery compartment. Position them with pull-tabs pointing toward the top for easy access next time. Press down firmly.

Step 12: Install New Battery

Carefully lower the new 2815 mAh battery into position. Press firmly along all edges to ensure strong adhesive contact. The battery should sit flush and secure.

Step 13: Reconnect Battery

Reconnect the battery cable by aligning and pressing down until it clicks. Replace the battery connector bracket and tighten the screws. Verify the connection is solid.

Step 14: Reconnect Display Cables

Reconnect all three display ribbon cables in reverse order. Make sure each one seats fully with a click. A loose OLED connector will cause display issues.

Step 15: Replace Display Cable Bracket

Replace the 5 tri-point screws holding the connector bracket. Tighten snugly but not forcefully. An over-tight bracket can crack the circuit board.

Step 16: Power On & Test Before Sealing

Power on your iPhone 12 and verify:

• OLED display shows image properly
• No dark spots or discoloration
• Touch responsive across entire screen
• Face ID works
• Battery percentage shows in Settings
• Charging works properly

Step 17: Apply Display Adhesive

Once all tests pass, shut down the device. Apply fresh adhesive strips around the display perimeter. Most kits include pre-cut L-shaped strips for each edge.

Step 18: Lower & Seal Display

Gently lower the OLED display into place. Press firmly around all edges for 10-15 seconds per section, especially the bottom where water sealing matters most.

Step 19: Replace Bottom Screws & Finish

Replace the two pentalobe screws at the bottom beside the Lightning port. Tighten firmly. Do a final visual check—the display should sit flush with no gaps.
