iPad Frozen or Unresponsive? Here's the Fix

When your iPad screen freezes and won't respond to touches, don't panic. This guide shows you how to force restart your iPad and prevent future freezes.

🚨 Immediate Fix: Force Restart

A force restart will unfreeze your iPad without losing data.

iPad with Home Button (iPad 6th gen and older, iPad mini 5 and older):

  1. Press and hold Home button + Power button together
  2. Keep holding for 10-15 seconds
  3. Release when Apple logo appears

iPad without Home Button (iPad Pro, iPad Air 4+, iPad mini 6):

  1. Quickly press and release Volume Up
  2. Quickly press and release Volume Down
  3. Press and hold Power button
  4. Keep holding for 10-15 seconds until Apple logo appears

📋 Prevent Future Freezes

1. Keep Storage Free

3. Update Apps

Open App Store > your profile > Update All. Outdated apps may be incompatible.

4. Close Unused Apps

5. Restart Weekly

🔧 If Force Restart Doesn't Work

iPad completely dead?

  1. Charge for at least 30 minutes
  2. Try force restart again

Stuck on Apple logo?

  1. Connect to computer with iTunes/Finder
  2. Force restart while connected

Nothing works?

You may need to enter Recovery Mode or DFU mode for a restore. This erases data, so try everything else first.
