• Pentalobe screwdriver P5 — for bottom case screws
• Phillips screwdriver set — various sizes (00, 0, 1)
• Plastic spudger/pry tools — for safe component separation
• Tweezers — for connector manipulation
• Anti-static wrist strap — to prevent ESD damage
• Thermal paste — if removing heatsinks
• Isopropyl alcohol (90%+) — for cleaning adhesive
• MacBook Pro replacement keyboard assembly — matched to your model
• Work mat and screw containers — to organize parts

🔋 Step 1: Backup and Power Down

1. Back up all data via Time Machine or iCloud
2. Shut down completely (Apple menu → Shut Down)
3. Unplug power adapter and all peripherals
4. Wait 10 minutes to allow capacitors to fully discharge

🔓 Step 2: Remove Bottom Case

1. Flip the MacBook over (screen facing down on a soft mat)
2. Remove all P5 Pentalobe screws from the bottom case (usually 8-10 screws)

4. Use the correct screwdriver size (Phillips 00 or 0 usually fits)

💻 Step 5: Disconnect Keyboard Flex Cable

1. Locate the keyboard flex cable connector (usually near the top of the keyboard or beneath it)
2. The connector has a locking tab or bracket — gently lift or slide it to release
3. Using tweezers, gently pull the flex cable connector straight out
4. Be extremely careful — flex cables tear easily

📱 Step 6: Remove the Keyboard Assembly

1. Once screws are removed and the flex cable is disconnected, carefully lift the keyboard/top case assembly
2. It may have adhesive around the edges — gently work a plastic spudger around the perimeter
3. Go slowly to avoid breaking any components or damaging the frame
4. Set the old keyboard assembly aside

🧹 Step 7: Clean the Frame

1. Use isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth to clean the frame where the keyboard sits
2. Remove all old adhesive residue — new adhesive won't stick if the surface is dirty
3. Inspect for any damage to underlying components

✨ Step 8: Install New Keyboard

1. Check alignment: Position the new keyboard assembly over the frame to ensure it fits properly
2. Apply adhesive: If the new assembly uses adhesive tape, apply it carefully around the perimeter
3. Connect flex cable: Insert the flex cable connector and secure the locking tab or bracket
4. Press down firmly: Apply pressure around all edges to activate the adhesive (if applicable)
5. Align screws: Reinstall all screws in their original locations
6. Tighten carefully: Use proper screwdriver pressure — do not over-tighten

🔋 Step 9: Reconnect Battery

1. Carefully push the battery connector back into its socket
2. You should hear/feel a click when it seats properly
3. Ensure it's fully inserted and aligned

⬅️ Step 10: Reassemble and Test

1. Carefully align the bottom case with the frame
2. Reinstall all P5 Pentalobe screws (hand-tighten first, then snug)
3. Power on the MacBook
4. Test all keys — tap each one to ensure response
5. Check for stuck keys or unresponsive areas
6. Use Keyboard Viewer (System Preferences → Keyboard) to verify all keys register

⚠️ Troubleshooting

Keyboard not responding after reassembly:

• Flex cable may not be fully seated — power off and reseat the connector
