Why You Don't Need a 5K Display

4K is fine for 27". 5K is sharper but costs 2-3x. macOS scales 4K beautifully (use 'Looks like 1920×1080' setting for crisp UI). Real talk: most users can't tell 4K from 5K beyond 24 inches.

USB-C Power Delivery Matters

If display does USB-C with 90W+ Power Delivery, ONE cable charges your MacBook AND drives display. No power brick needed. Game-changer for desk setup.

Studio Display Pros & Cons

Pros: built-in webcam, speakers, 5K, perfect macOS integration, single Thunderbolt cable.

Cons: $1,599 for 60Hz panel (no ProMotion), webcam mediocre, height-adjust costs +$400 extra. Polished but pricey.

My $499 Pick: Dell U2723QE

27" 4K, USB-C hub (5 USB ports + ethernet), 90W power delivery to MacBook, factory color-calibrated. Basically a Studio Display for 1/3 the price minus the speakers/webcam (use Mac's built-ins). Best value 2026.

Avoid: Cheap 27" 1080p Monitors

Sub-$200 1080p monitors look terrible at 27 inches with macOS scaling. Pixel density too low — text fuzzy. If budget tight, get a 24" 1080p ($150) instead — pixel density works at 24".
