M4 Max: 64GB base, up to 128GB. M4 Ultra: 128GB base, up to 192GB. Storage 1TB-8TB. Cannot upgrade after purchase — order correct config first time. Studio Pro work: 96-128GB sweet spot.Port selection
6 Thunderbolt 5 ports (faster than Thunderbolt 4). USB-A. HDMI. Ethernet (10Gb option). Best port count of any Mac. Multiple monitors + audio interfaces + storage all simultaneously. Pro connectivity.Pro workload performance
4K+ video editing: real-time playback, fast renders. 3D rendering (Cinema 4D, Blender): hardware ray tracing accelerates. Music production (Pro Tools, Logic): unlimited tracks. AI/ML training: 64-128GB unified memory critical. Sustained 24/7 capable.vs Mac Pro M2 Ultra
Mac Pro M2 Ultra ($6999+): PCIe expansion (audio interfaces, video capture cards). Heavier rack-mount option. Larger thermal envelope. Mac Studio M4 Ultra (when available): same chip class without PCIe. Most pros — Mac Studio wins on value. Mac Pro for PCIe-required workflows.vs MacBook Pro M4 Max — when Studio wins
Mac Studio better for: sustained workloads (better thermals), more RAM options (up to 192GB), more ports, no battery limit. MacBook Pro better for: portability, integrated display + keyboard, battery for travel. Many pros own both — Studio at desk + MacBook Pro on go.Mail-In Repair Service
