iPhone 12 Not Charging

🔍 Step 1: Identify the Symptom

• No charging at all (no indicator): Cable, adapter, port issue, or deeply depleted battery
• Charging stops at 80%: Optimized Battery Charging — by design, not a defect
• MagSafe clicking on/off repeatedly: Metal card/object in case blocking magnet, or case too thick
• Wired charges fine, MagSafe doesn't (or vice versa): Isolates the issue to one charging method
• "This accessory may not be supported": Non-MFi Lightning cable — replace immediately
• Very hot while charging: Thermal protection — stop, cool down, resume

🔌 Step 2: Test Cable and Adapter

1. Try a different Lightning cable — cables fail invisibly at the connector ends
2. Try a different power adapter — the iPhone 12 supports fast charging with a 20W USB-C PD adapter; use at minimum a 12W adapter
3. Try a different outlet
4. Plug directly into wall — not a USB hub, laptop, or car charger for diagnosis
5. Confirm cable is MFi certified — counterfeit cables cause "not supported" errors and erratic charging
