โฑ๏ธ 5-20 minutes ๐Ÿ’ช Easy ๐Ÿ’ฐ Free (software fixes)

๐Ÿ” Types of Vibration Issues

  • No vibration at all: Haptic completely dead
  • No vibration on calls: But keyboard haptics work
  • No haptic feedback: Typing and 3D Touch don't vibrate
  • Weak vibration: Barely noticeable
  • Constant vibration: Won't stop vibrating

๐Ÿ”‡ Fix #1: Check the Ring/Silent Switch

The most common cause of "no vibration" โ€” the switch is set wrong!

  1. Locate the Ring/Silent switch on the left side of your iPhone
  2. If you see orange โ€” Silent mode is ON
  3. Flip the switch so no orange is visible โ€” Ring mode
  4. Now check your vibration settings (see Fix #2)

Note: By default, iPhone vibrates in BOTH Ring and Silent modes, but this can be changed in settings.

โš™๏ธ Fix #2: Check Vibration Settings

Make sure vibration is actually enabled:

  1. Go to Settings โ†’ Sounds & Haptics
  2. Under "VIBRATE" at the top, check:
    • Vibrate on Ring: Toggle ON
    • Vibrate on Silent: Toggle ON
  3. Scroll down and ensure System Haptics is ON (bottom of screen)

๐Ÿ“ณ Fix #3: Check Individual Vibration Patterns

Each alert type can have vibration enabled or disabled separately:

  1. Go to Settings โ†’ Sounds & Haptics
  2. Tap on Ringtone (for calls)
  3. At the top, tap Vibration
  4. Select a vibration pattern (not "None")
  5. Repeat for:
    • Text Tone
    • New Voicemail
    • Calendar Alerts
    • Reminder Alerts

๐ŸŒ™ Fix #4: Check Focus/Do Not Disturb

Focus modes can silence vibrations:

  1. Open Control Center (swipe down from top-right)
  2. Check if Do Not Disturb or any Focus mode is on
  3. If so, tap to disable it
  4. Or go to Settings โ†’ Focus to customize which notifications vibrate

โ™ฟ Fix #5: Check Accessibility Settings

Accessibility settings can affect vibration:

  1. Go to Settings โ†’ Accessibility
  2. Tap Touch
  3. Make sure Vibration is ON
  4. Check System Haptics is ON

Also check:

  1. Go to Settings โ†’ Accessibility โ†’ Touch โ†’ Haptic Touch
  2. Test the haptic feedback on this screen
  3. If it doesn't vibrate here, hardware may be the issue

๐Ÿ”„ Fix #6: Restart Your iPhone

A simple restart can fix temporary software glitches:

  1. Press and hold Side button + Volume Up (or Down)
  2. Slide to power off
  3. Wait 30 seconds
  4. Press Side button to turn back on

๐Ÿ“ฑ Fix #7: Update iOS

Software bugs can cause vibration issues:

  1. Go to Settings โ†’ General โ†’ Software Update
  2. Download and install any available updates
  3. Test vibration after update

This resets all settings without deleting data:

  2. Tap Reset โ†’ Reset All Settings
  3. Enter passcode and confirm
  4. iPhone will restart with default settings

๐Ÿงช Test Your Vibration Motor

Here's how to confirm if your Taptic Engine is working:

  1. Go to Settings โ†’ Sounds & Haptics
  2. Drag the Ringer and Alerts volume slider back and forth
  3. You should feel a click/tap with each position change
  4. Or go to Settings โ†’ Accessibility โ†’ Touch โ†’ Haptic Touch
  5. Tap the test image โ€” you should feel feedback

If no vibration at all, the Taptic Engine may be faulty.

โš ๏ธ Hardware Issues

If all settings are correct but vibration still doesn't work:

  • Taptic Engine failure: The vibration motor has died
  • Loose connector: Taptic Engine flex cable disconnected
  • Water damage: Corrosion on Taptic Engine or connector
  • Logic board damage: Taptic Engine driver circuit failed

The Taptic Engine can be replaced on most iPhone models. It's located at the bottom of the iPhone near the speaker.

If you're comfortable with repairs, the Taptic Engine is one of the easier components to replace:

  1. Power off iPhone and remove the two bottom screws
  2. Use suction cup to open screen slightly
  3. Disconnect battery first
  4. Locate Taptic Engine at bottom of phone
  5. Remove screws, disconnect flex cable, swap part
