Quick verdict
If you have iPhone 15 Pro: skip iPhone 16 Pro upgrade unless you specifically want Camera Control button or 5x telephoto on Pro (not Pro Max only). If on iPhone 14 Pro and below: upgrade worth considering for cumulative improvements.Main camera comparison
iPhone 15 Pro: 48MP main, f/1.78. iPhone 16 Pro: 48MP main, slightly better low-light processing, same lens. Marginal real-world improvement. Most users won\'t see difference.Telephoto major upgrade
iPhone 15 Pro: 3x telephoto. iPhone 15 Pro Max: 5x telephoto. iPhone 16 Pro: 5x telephoto (Pro Max-tier on smaller Pro). iPhone 16 Pro Max: 5x telephoto (same). Major upgrade for iPhone 16 Pro (smaller) — gets Pro Max telephoto.Camera Control button (iPhone 16 Pro)
Dedicated camera button on side of iPhone 16 Pro. Light press = focus + exposure. Full press = capture. Force-touch = adjust settings. Tactile shooting like dedicated camera. iPhone 15 Pro: no Camera Control button. Major UX difference.Video improvements
iPhone 16 Pro: 4K 120fps slo-mo (iPhone 15 Pro 1080p 240fps slo-mo). 4K 60fps Dolby Vision. ProRes external. Marginal video upgrade — content creators may notice.AI processing — same chip family
Both iPhone 15 Pro + iPhone 16 Pro support full Apple Intelligence. Both run same iOS 18+ features. iPhone 16 Pro newer A18 Pro chip = more headroom for future AI features. iPhone 15 Pro will age slightly faster.Storage options
iPhone 15 Pro: 128GB-1TB. iPhone 16 Pro: 256GB-1TB. iPhone 16 Pro removed 128GB option. ProRes recording demands storage — both can do ProRes 4K 60fps to external SSD.Decision for photographers
Upgrade if: you want Camera Control button (real game-changer), iPhone 16 Pro (smaller) instead of Pro Max for 5x telephoto, your iPhone 14 Pro or older. Skip if: iPhone 15 Pro Max owner (telephoto same), satisfied with current camera. Wait for: iPhone 17 Pro 2025 may have bigger camera leap.Mail-In Repair Service
