iPhone Notifications Not Working
Missing notifications on your iPhone? No sounds, banners, or badges? Fix notification issues with these comprehensive solutions.
🔍 Check the Basics
- Silent mode — Check the side switch (orange = silent)
- Do Not Disturb — Check Control Center for moon icon
- Focus mode — Any Focus mode can block notifications
- Volume — Make sure ringer volume is up
🛠️ Fix 1: Disable Focus / Do Not Disturb
- Open Control Center (swipe from top-right)
- Tap Focus if any mode is active
- Or go to Settings → Focus
- Disable all Focus modes temporarily
- Check if notifications come through
🛠️ Fix 2: Check App Notification Settings
- Settings → Notifications
- Find the app with missing notifications
- Make sure "Allow Notifications" is ON
- Enable: Lock Screen, Notification Center, Banners
- Check "Sounds" is enabled
- Check "Badges" is enabled
🛠️ Fix 3: Check Notification Summary
Scheduled Summary delays notifications:
- Settings → Notifications → Scheduled Summary
- Check if the app is included in summary
- Remove apps you need immediate notifications from
- Or disable Scheduled Summary entirely
🛠️ Fix 4: Check Per-Contact Settings
Individual contacts can be silenced:
- Open Messages or Phone app
- Open the conversation/contact
- Tap their name at top
- Check if "Hide Alerts" is enabled (turn OFF)
🛠️ Fix 5: Restart Your iPhone
- Press Side + Volume button
- Slide to power off
- Wait 30 seconds
- Turn back on
🛠️ Fix 6: Toggle Notifications Off and On
- Settings → Notifications → [App]
- Turn OFF "Allow Notifications"
- Wait 10 seconds
- Turn it back ON
- Reconfigure notification preferences
🛠️ Fix 7: Check Bluetooth Devices
Notifications may be going to connected devices:
- Settings → Bluetooth
- Check connected devices (AirPods, Apple Watch, etc.)
- Notifications may play on connected device instead
- Disconnect devices temporarily to test
🛠️ Fix 8: Reinstall the App
- Press and hold the app icon
- Tap "Remove App" → "Delete App"
- Reinstall from App Store
- Enable notifications when prompted
🛠️ Fix 9: Reset All Settings
- Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone
- Tap Reset → Reset All Settings
- This won't delete data but resets all preferences
- You'll need to reconfigure notification settings
🛠️ Fix 10: Update iOS
- Settings → General → Software Update
- Install available updates
- Notification bugs are often fixed in updates
🛠️ Fix 11: Check Screen Time
Screen Time can limit notifications:
- Settings → Screen Time
- Check "Downtime" schedule
- Check "App Limits"
- Check "Always Allowed" apps
⚠️ App-Specific Issues
- Messages: Check Settings → Messages → Unknown Senders filter
- Mail: Check fetch settings and VIP notifications
- WhatsApp/Telegram: Check in-app notification settings too
- Gmail: Check sync settings in the app
