iPhone Night Shift Not Working - Fix Guide

Night Shift reduces blue light by warming your display colors in the evening, potentially helping you sleep better. If it's not working or not activating automatically, here's how to fix it.

✅ Enable Night Shift

Quick Toggle:

  1. Open Control Center (swipe down from top-right)
  2. Press and hold Brightness slider
  3. Tap Night Shift button

In Settings:

  1. Settings → Display & Brightness
  2. Tap Night Shift
  3. Toggle Manually Enable Until Tomorrow
⏰ Set Up Automatic Schedule
  1. Settings → Display & Brightness → Night Shift
  2. Enable Scheduled
  3. Tap From / To
  4. Choose:
    • Sunset to Sunrise — Automatic based on location
    • Custom Schedule — Set your own times
🔧 Schedule Not Working?

1. Enable Location Services

Sunset/Sunrise scheduling requires location:

  1. Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services
  2. Make sure Location Services is ON
  3. Scroll to System Services
  4. Enable System Customization

2. Check Date & Time

  1. Settings → General → Date & Time
  2. Enable Set Automatically
  3. Verify correct time zone

3. Restart iPhone

  1. Press Side + Volume buttons
  2. Slide to power off
  3. Wait 30 seconds, turn back on
🌡️ Adjust Color Temperature
  1. Settings → Display & Brightness → Night Shift
  2. Drag the Color Temperature slider
  3. Move toward "More Warm" for stronger effect
  4. Move toward "Less Warm" for subtle effect

If you don't notice Night Shift, try increasing warmth.

⚠️ Night Shift Disabled?

Night Shift may be disabled when:

  • Low Power Mode is on (sometimes)
  • True Tone conflicts (rarely)
  • Screen recording is active
  • Screen mirroring to TV/display

Try disabling these temporarily to test Night Shift.

🆚 Night Shift vs Dark Mode
  • Night Shift: Warms colors (reduces blue light)
  • Dark Mode: Changes UI to dark colors
  • You can use both together for maximum eye comfort
