🎯 Understanding Focus Mode

Focus Mode controls which notifications reach you:

  • Do Not Disturb — Silences all notifications
  • Sleep — Activates during bedtime
  • Work — Allows work-related apps only
  • Personal — Filters for personal time
  • Custom — Create your own Focus profiles
🔔 Fix #1: Check Allowed Notifications

Focus Mode might be letting specific contacts/apps through:

  1. Settings → Focus
  2. Tap the Focus you're using (e.g., Do Not Disturb)
  3. Check Allowed Notifications
  4. Review People — remove any you want silenced
  5. Review Apps — remove apps that shouldn't notify

Tip: "Time Sensitive" notifications can break through by default.

⏰ Fix #2: Disable Time Sensitive Notifications

Time Sensitive alerts bypass Focus by default:

  1. Settings → Focus → [Your Focus]
  2. Tap Apps under Allowed Notifications
  3. Toggle OFF Time Sensitive Notifications

This ensures even urgent notifications are silenced.

📞 Fix #3: Check Repeated Calls Setting

Repeated calls can break through Focus:

  1. Settings → Focus → [Your Focus]
  2. Scroll to Options
  3. Toggle OFF Allow Repeated Calls

By default, if someone calls twice in 3 minutes, the second call rings through.

🕐 Fix #4: Check Schedule Settings

Focus might not be active when you think it is:

  1. Settings → Focus → [Your Focus]
  2. Tap Set a Schedule
  3. Verify the times, days, and triggers
  4. Check Smart Activation isn't overriding your settings

You can manually enable Focus from Control Center to override schedules.

📱 Fix #5: Sync Focus Across Devices

If Focus works on iPhone but not Mac/iPad:

  1. Settings → Focus
  2. Toggle ON Share Across Devices at the bottom
  3. Make sure all devices are signed into same Apple ID
  4. Enable iCloud sync on all devices
🔄 Fix #6: Delete and Recreate Focus

Corrupted Focus settings can cause issues:

  1. Settings → Focus
  2. Tap the problematic Focus mode
  3. Scroll down and tap Delete Focus
  4. Tap the + to create a new one
  5. Set up your allowed contacts and apps fresh
🌙 Fix #7: Sleep Focus Issues

Sleep Focus has special settings:

  1. Settings → Focus → Sleep
  2. Make sure your Sleep Schedule is set in Health app
  3. Check Wind Down settings
  4. Settings → Health → Sleep → Full Schedule & Options
  5. Verify bedtime and wake time are correct
⬆️ Fix #8: Update iOS

Focus Mode bugs are fixed in updates:

  • Settings → General → Software Update
  • Install any available updates
  • iOS 15+ has received multiple Focus improvements
🔧 Fix #9: Reset All Settings

If nothing works, reset your settings:

  • Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset → Reset All Settings
  • This won't delete data but resets Focus configurations
  • You'll need to set up Focus modes again
💡 Pro Tips
  • Use Control Center (swipe down) to quickly toggle Focus
  • Long-press the Focus button to see all modes
  • Set Focus Filters to hide specific app content
  • Create Focus modes for Driving that auto-activate
  • Lock Screen can show different widgets per Focus mode
