iPhone Driving Focus Not Working - Fix Guide
Driving Focus (formerly Do Not Disturb While Driving) silences notifications and can auto-reply to texts while you're driving. If it's not activating or not working properly, here's how to fix it.
â Set Up Driving Focus
- Settings â Focus
- Tap Driving (or tap + to add if missing)
- Configure allowed notifications and auto-replies
đ Enable Auto-Activation
- Settings â Focus â Driving
- Scroll to Turn On Automatically
- Tap Add Schedule
- Choose your activation trigger:
- While Connected to Car Bluetooth â Best option
- When CarPlay is Active
- Automatically â Uses motion detection
đ§ Not Activating Automatically?
1. Check Motion & Fitness
For automatic detection, motion access is required:
- Settings â Privacy & Security â Motion & Fitness
- Enable Fitness Tracking
2. Check Bluetooth Connection
If using "When Connected to Car Bluetooth":
- Make sure car Bluetooth is paired: Settings â Bluetooth
- Verify car shows as "Connected" when in vehicle
- Try removing and re-pairing the car
3. Check CarPlay
If using CarPlay trigger:
- Settings â General â CarPlay
- Make sure your car is listed
- Check cable connection (wired CarPlay)
4. Location Services
- Settings â Privacy & Security â Location Services
- Make sure Location Services is ON
- Scroll to System Services â Motion Calibration & Distance ON

- Settings â Focus â Driving
- Tap People â remove anyone who shouldn't bypass
- Tap Apps â remove apps that shouldn't notify
- Disable "Time Sensitive Notifications" if needed
đŦ Auto-Reply Not Working?
- Settings â Focus â Driving
- Tap Options
- Tap Auto-Reply
- Choose who receives auto-replies: No One, Recents, Favorites, All Contacts
- Customize the auto-reply message
đĢ Activating When Not Driving?
If Driving Focus activates as a passenger:
- When the "You're Not Driving?" notification appears, tap it
- This teaches iPhone to recognize when you're a passenger
- Or use Bluetooth trigger instead of automatic detection
đ Reset Driving Focus
- Settings â Focus â Driving
- Scroll to bottom
- Tap Delete Focus
- Go back to Focus and tap + to create new Driving Focus
âšī¸ Manually Activate/Deactivate
- Open Control Center
- Tap Focus
- Tap Driving to turn on/off
