iPhone 6 Plus Screen Replacement Guide
The iPhone 6 Plus (5.5-inch display) was Apple's first "phablet." This guide covers complete screen assembly replacement including LCD, digitizer, and front camera/sensor assembly transfer.
- Power off your iPhone completely
- Remove the SIM card tray
- Work on a clean, well-lit surface with a magnetic mat to track screws
- The 6 Plus uses different screw lengths — mixing them up can damage the logic board

📦 Parts Needed
- iPhone 6 Plus Screen Assembly — includes LCD, digitizer, and frame ($25-45)
- Adhesive strips — to reseal the display (often included with screen)
📋 Step-by-Step Instructions
Power Off & Remove Bottom Screws
Hold the power button and slide to power off. Remove the two 3.6mm P2 Pentalobe screws on either side of the Lightning connector.
Apply Suction Cup
Place a suction cup just above the home button. Press firmly to create a seal. If your screen is severely cracked, apply clear packing tape first to help the suction cup grip.
Separate the Display
Pull up on the suction cup while pushing down on the phone body with your other hand. A small gap should appear between the display and rear case. Insert a plastic opening tool into this gap.
Slide Opening Tool Around Edges
Gently slide the opening tool along the left edge, then the right edge to break the adhesive seal. The display opens like a book, hinged at the top.
Open Display to 90°
Swing the display up to roughly 90 degrees. You can prop it against something or have a helper hold it. Don't open it beyond 90° or you'll strain the ribbon cables.
Remove Battery Connector Shield
Locate the metal bracket covering the battery connector (lower right area). Remove the two 2.2mm Phillips screws securing it, then lift off the bracket.
Disconnect the Battery
Use a plastic spudger to gently pry up the battery connector from its socket on the logic board. This is critical for safety — never work on an iPhone with the battery connected.
Remove Display Cable Shield
Remove the five Phillips screws securing the display cable bracket (they're different lengths — note their positions!). Remove the bracket.
Disconnect Display Cables
Use a spudger to disconnect the three display ribbon cables: the front camera/sensor cable, LCD cable, and digitizer cable. Pry straight up from their sockets.
Remove the Display Assembly
The display assembly is now free. Set it aside on a clean surface.
Transfer Components to New Screen
You'll need to transfer from your old screen to the new one:
- Home button assembly — required for Touch ID to work
- Front camera and sensor assembly
- Earpiece speaker
- LCD shield plate (metal backing)
Reassembly
Follow these steps in reverse order:
- Connect the three display cables
- Replace the display cable bracket with correct screws
- Connect the battery
- Replace battery connector shield
- Close the display and press along the edges
- Install the two Pentalobe screws
Test Your Repair
Power on and test:
- ✓ Display shows image clearly
- ✓ Touch response works across entire screen
- ✓ Home button and Touch ID function
- ✓ Front camera works
- ✓ Proximity sensor works (screen dims during calls)
- ✓ Earpiece speaker produces sound
🔧 Troubleshooting
Screen doesn't turn on
Recheck all three display cable connections. Make sure they're fully seated and not at an angle.
Touch not working / Ghost touches
The digitizer cable may not be fully connected, or you may have a defective replacement screen.
Touch ID doesn't work
The home button must be transferred from your original screen. Touch ID is paired to the logic board and cannot be replaced.
Front camera or sensors not working
Check that the front camera assembly is properly connected and seated.
💡 Pro Tips
- Use a magnetic project mat to keep screws organized by step
- Take photos as you disassemble to reference during reassembly
- If buying a screen with a frame (full assembly), you won't need to transfer as many components
- Quality matters — cheap screens often have poor color accuracy and faster failure rates
