iPhone 16e Wi-Fi Not Working Fix Guide
iPhone 16e won't connect to Wi-Fi, keeps dropping the connection, or showing full bars but no internet? Wi-Fi issues on the 16e are almost always software โ and almost always fixable without a trip to Apple. Here's how.

๐ถ Identify Your Wi-Fi Problem
Different Wi-Fi symptoms have different fixes โ narrow it down first:
- Can't see your network in the list: Router issue, or iPhone Wi-Fi radio glitch โ toggle Wi-Fi off/on first
- Network shows but won't connect / wrong password error: Corrupted network credentials โ forget and rejoin
- Connected but no internet (spinning indicator): DNS or router problem โ often not the iPhone's fault
- Connects then drops repeatedly: Signal interference, IP conflict, or power management issue
- Slow only on iPhone 16e (other devices fast): Band issue (2.4GHz vs 5GHz/6GHz) or DNS misconfiguration
Quick test: Check if other devices on the same network have internet. If they don't, restart your router first before troubleshooting the iPhone.
๐ Step 1: Toggle and Restart
Toggle Airplane Mode: Swipe down for Control Center โ tap the airplane icon to enable โ wait 10 seconds โ tap again to disable. This resets all wireless radios simultaneously and resolves most transient Wi-Fi glitches.
Toggle Wi-Fi directly: Settings โ Wi-Fi โ toggle off โ wait 10 seconds โ toggle on. Sometimes more effective than Airplane Mode for Wi-Fi-specific issues.
Restart the iPhone 16e: Hold side button + volume down โ slide to power off โ wait 30 seconds โ power on. A full restart clears the Wi-Fi driver stack and resolves issues that radio toggles can't.
Restart your router: Unplug from power for 30 seconds, plug back in, wait 2 minutes. Many iPhone Wi-Fi problems are actually router problems โ DHCP lease conflicts, overloaded connections, or stuck ARP tables.
๐ Step 2: Forget and Rejoin the Network
Corrupted Wi-Fi credentials cause "unable to join network" errors even with the correct password:
- Settings โ Wi-Fi โ tap the (i) next to your network name
- Tap Forget This Network โ confirm
- Return to the Wi-Fi list and tap your network
- Enter the password fresh โ make sure you're typing it correctly (passwords are case-sensitive)
If you're connecting to a network for the first time and it won't connect, try these:
- Make sure the network isn't hidden โ if it is, tap "Other" and enter the SSID and password manually
- Check that the network isn't using MAC address filtering on the router side (the router may be blocking new devices)
- Confirm the password hasn't been changed on the router since you last connected
๐ Step 3: Fix DNS for "Connected but No Internet"
If your iPhone shows Wi-Fi connected with full bars but Safari shows "cannot connect to the internet," DNS is usually the culprit:
- Settings โ Wi-Fi โ tap (i) next to your connected network
- Scroll down to Configure DNS โ tap it โ change to Manual
- Delete existing DNS servers and add: 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare) and 8.8.8.8 (Google)
- Tap Save โ test browsing immediately
ISP-provided DNS servers sometimes fail silently, causing this exact symptom. Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) is faster and more reliable for most users.
๐ก Step 4: Switch to 5GHz or 6GHz Band
The iPhone 16e supports Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) on 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz. If you're auto-connecting to 2.4GHz, speeds will be poor and reliability often suffers in dense areas:
- If your router broadcasts separate SSIDs for each band (e.g., "Home_2.4G" and "Home_5G"), connect specifically to the 5GHz or 6GHz network
- 2.4GHz is slower and shared with Bluetooth, microwaves, and neighbor networks โ it's fine for range but not performance
- Move closer to the router when troubleshooting โ 5GHz range is shorter than 2.4GHz
โ๏ธ Step 5: Reset Network Settings
If nothing above works, resetting network settings clears all saved Wi-Fi passwords, VPN configurations, and cellular settings โ and often resolves persistent Wi-Fi problems caused by corrupted configuration:
- Settings โ General โ Transfer or Reset iPhone โ Reset
- Tap Reset Network Settings
- Enter your passcode and confirm
- iPhone restarts โ reconnect to your Wi-Fi networks (you'll need passwords again)
Note: This does NOT delete any apps, photos, or personal data. It only resets network-related settings.
After resetting, also try Reset All Settings (same menu) if Wi-Fi issues persist โ this resets all settings but keeps all data and apps.
๐ ๏ธ Step 6: Update iOS
Apple has released Wi-Fi fix updates in several iOS point releases. Settings โ General โ Software Update. If an update is available, install it โ Wi-Fi driver bugs in iOS are not uncommon and patches ship regularly.
If Wi-Fi worked before a specific iOS update and stopped afterward, check Apple's support community or r/ios for reports of the same issue โ sometimes waiting for the next patch is the pragmatic solution.
