iPhone 16 Battery Replacement

Is your iPhone 16 battery draining fast or not holding a charge? This guide walks you through replacing the battery safely, including Apple's new electrically-released adhesive system.

⏱️ 45-60 minutes 💪 Intermediate-Advanced 💰 $30-50 for battery

⚠️ Before You Begin

  • Back up your iPhone — Always back up before any repair
  • Discharge to below 25% — Reduces fire risk if battery is punctured
  • Power off completely — Never work on a powered device
  • Work in a clean, well-lit area — Small screws are easy to lose
  • Note: iPhone 16 uses a new electrically-released adhesive system

🛠️ Tools & Parts Needed

  • Pentalobe P2 screwdriver
  • Tri-point Y000 screwdriver
  • Suction cup
  • Plastic spudger and picks
  • Tweezers
  • 9V battery or low-voltage power source (for adhesive release)
  • Replacement iPhone 16 battery (with adhesive)
  • Heat gun or iOpener (optional)

🛠️ Step 1: Remove the Bottom Screws

  1. Power off your iPhone 16 completely
  2. Remove the two pentalobe screws at the bottom (next to the Lightning port)
  3. Keep screws organized — they're different sizes

🛠️ Step 2: Open the Display

  1. Apply gentle heat around the edges (optional but helps)
  2. Attach suction cup near the bottom edge
  3. Pull up while inserting a pick into the gap
  4. Slide the pick around the perimeter to cut the adhesive
  5. Important: Don't open more than 90° — cables are still attached
  6. Support the display at a 90° angle or use a display stand

🛠️ Step 3: Disconnect the Battery

  1. Remove the screws securing the battery connector bracket
  2. Use a plastic spudger to disconnect the battery connector
  3. This is critical — never skip this step before any internal work

🛠️ Step 4: Release the Adhesive (New Method)

iPhone 16 introduces electrically-released adhesive:

  1. Locate the two metal contacts on the battery adhesive tab
  2. Connect a 9V battery or low-voltage source (positive to positive, negative to negative)
  3. Apply current for 1-2 seconds — the adhesive will release
  4. The battery should lift out easily
  5. Alternative: If electrical release fails, gently apply heat and pry with plastic tools

🛠️ Step 5: Install the New Battery

  1. Remove any protective film from the new battery
  2. Apply the new adhesive strips if not pre-installed
  3. Carefully align and place the new battery
  4. Press firmly to secure the adhesive
  5. Reconnect the battery connector
  6. Replace the battery connector bracket and screws

🛠️ Step 6: Reassemble

  1. Carefully fold the display back down
  2. Press around the edges to reseal
  3. Replace the two bottom pentalobe screws
  4. Power on and test

✅ Post-Replacement Checklist

  • Check battery health in Settings → Battery → Battery Health
  • Calibrate by draining to 0% then charging to 100% uninterrupted
  • Verify all functions work (Face ID, speakers, cameras)
  • Note: You may see "Unknown Part" warning — this is normal for third-party batteries

⚠️ When to Get Professional Help

  • Battery is swollen (do not attempt — fire risk)
  • You accidentally damaged flex cables
  • Display won't reseal properly
  • Phone won't power on after reassembly
