Step 2: Tape Cracked Glass

Step 3: Mark Your Opening Pick

Use tape or marker to mark 3mm from the tip of your opening pick. This prevents inserting too deep and damaging internal components.

Step 4: Heat the Bottom Edge

Use a hair dryer to heat the bottom edge of the iPhone for 90 seconds until it's slightly too hot to touch. This softens the adhesive.

Steps 7-10: Separate All Edges

Heat and separate each edge in order:

  1. Right edge (power button side) - heat 90 sec, slide pick up
  2. Top edge - heat 90 sec, slide pick across
  3. Left edge - heat 90 sec, use gentle lifting (cables here!)
🚨 Critical Warning: Delicate flex cables run along the LEFT edge. Do NOT insert picks deeply on the left side or you will damage the display cables!

Step 11: Open the iPhone

With all adhesive separated, open the screen from the right side like a book. The left edge has flex cables acting as hinges.

Steps 12-20: Disconnect Components

  1. Remove battery connector cover screws (Y000)
  2. Disconnect battery connector with spudger
  3. Remove display cable bracket screws
  4. Disconnect OLED panel connector
  5. Disconnect digitizer connector
  6. Disconnect front sensor assembly connector
  7. Remove screen from phone

Steps 21-27: Transfer Components

Transfer from old screen to new:

  • Earpiece speaker & sensor assembly
  • Front camera flex cable
  • Face ID components (handle carefully!)
  • Metal shield plates
⚠️ Face ID Warning: The Face ID sensor is paired to your phone. Transfer it carefully - if damaged, Face ID won't work and Apple must repair it.

Steps 28-31: Reassembly

  1. Position new screen and connect all cables
  2. Test screen before sealing (power on briefly)
  3. Reconnect battery
  4. Apply new display adhesive
  5. Press screen firmly into place
  6. Replace pentalobe screws

✅ Testing Your Repair

  • Power on and check display for dead pixels or lines
  • Test Face ID enrollment and unlock
  • Test touch response across entire screen
  • Check True Tone in Settings > Display
  • Test earpiece speaker with a call
  • Test front camera and Portrait mode
  • Verify Dynamic Island animations work
