iPhone 15 Pro Not Charging

iPhone 15 Pro uses USB-C for charging. If it won't charge, the issue is typically a dirty port, faulty cable, software glitch, or battery health problem. Follow this guide to diagnose and fix the problem.

๐Ÿ” Step 1: Inspect the USB-C Port

The most common cause of charging issues is debris or liquid inside the USB-C port:

  1. Look directly into the charging port with a flashlight โ€” it's located at the bottom of the phone
  2. Check for lint, dust, pocket debris, or corrosion inside the port
  3. If you see debris, use a wooden toothpick or soft brush to gently remove it โ€” do NOT use metal (risk of short circuit)
  4. Gently brush the inside of the port, working from left to right
  5. Use compressed air to blow out any remaining dust
  6. If you see white, green, or brown corrosion, the port has liquid damage and may need professional cleaning

After cleaning: Try charging again. If it works, you're done.

๐Ÿ”Œ Step 2: Try a Different USB-C Cable and Power Adapter

Faulty cables cause 40% of charging issues โ€” always test with a known-good cable first:

  1. Use a different USB-C cable โ€” borrow one if needed (Mac, iPad, or other phone)
  2. Try charging with a different power adapter (minimum 18W recommended for iPhone 15 Pro)
  3. Test with a powered USB hub or computer USB port to see if the phone recognizes the connection
  4. Try multiple charging outlets in your home โ€” a tripped breaker or dead outlet is sometimes the culprit

Does it charge with a different cable? Your original cable is faulty โ€” replace it. If it still won't charge with multiple cables, continue to Step 3.

โš™๏ธ Step 3: Force Restart and Check Charge Limit

Software glitches can prevent charging recognition:

  1. Force restart: Quickly press Volume Up, then Volume Down, then hold Side button until Apple logo appears
  2. After restart, open Settings โ†’ Battery โ†’ Battery Health & Charging
  3. Check if Charging Limit is enabled โ€” iOS prevents charging above 80% if this is on
  4. If Charging Limit is enabled (set to 80%), toggle it OFF and wait 30 seconds to see if charging resumes
  5. Restart again after disabling the limit

Is battery health showing "Service Battery"? Continue to Step 4.

๐Ÿ“ฑ Step 4: Update iOS

Apple releases charging fixes in iOS updates:

  1. Open Settings โ†’ General โ†’ Software Update
  2. If an update is available, connect to Wi-Fi and install it
  3. After update, try charging again
  4. If no update available, you're on the latest version

๐Ÿฅ Step 5: Check for Physical or Liquid Damage

Charging issues can indicate internal damage:

  1. Inspect the USB-C port for bent or misaligned pins โ€” compare to a known-good port
  2. Check for corrosion, discoloration, or oxidation inside the port
  3. Look for water damage indicators (liquid contact indicators on SIM tray) โ€” small paper tabs that turn red when wet
  4. If the phone was dropped or wet, the charging port connector or charging IC (logic board chip) may be damaged

๐Ÿ’พ Step 6: Erase in DFU Mode (Last Resort)

This last software fix requires connecting to a Mac or PC:

  1. Connect your iPhone 15 Pro to a Mac or PC with USB-C cable
  2. On Mac: Open Finder โ†’ select your device โ†’ Restore
  3. On Windows: Open iTunes or latest Windows device manager
  4. Follow prompts to restore โ€” this erases and reinstalls iOS
  5. After restore, test charging without restoring from backup first

If charging still fails after erase, it's a hardware issue.

๐Ÿ”ง When to Get Professional Help

  • USB-C port is dirty or corroded: Professional cleaning required (not covered by warranty if liquid damage)
  • Port pins are bent: Requires port replacement (typically $100-200)
  • Charging IC is damaged: Logic board microsoldering required
  • Battery is dead or failing: Battery replacement ($70-100)
