iPhone 14 Pro Not Charging

iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max (September 2022) were the first iPhones with Always-On Display โ€” which added new charging considerations. At 3+ years old, Lightning port lint and battery wear are becoming real factors. Here's every fix.

โฑ๏ธ 5-20 minutes ๐Ÿ’ช Easy ๐Ÿ’ฐ Free

๐Ÿ” Step 1: Identify the Symptom

  • No charging indicator when plugged in: Cable, adapter, or lint-packed port
  • "This accessory may not be supported": Non-MFi cable โ€” replace immediately
  • Stopped at 80%: Optimized Battery Charging โ€” intentional feature
  • MagSafe clicking on/off repeatedly: Metal card or object in case blocking magnetic alignment
  • Charges wired but not MagSafe (or vice versa): Isolates the failing path

๐Ÿงน Step 2: Clean the Lightning Port

iPhone 14 Pro still uses Lightning โ€” 3+ years of use means lint accumulation is increasingly common:

  1. Power off the phone completely
  2. Use a wooden or plastic toothpick โ€” never metal
  3. Shine flashlight in โ€” look for compressed lint at the back
  4. Gently scrape lint toward the opening and remove
  5. Compressed air burst to clear residue
  6. Cable should click in firmly after cleaning

๐Ÿ”Œ Step 3: Test Cable and Adapter

  1. Try a different MFi-certified Lightning cable
  2. Try a different power adapter โ€” use at minimum a 20W USB-C PD for fast charging
  3. Test with a different wall outlet
  4. Plug directly into wall โ€” not a hub or laptop port

๐Ÿงฒ Step 4: MagSafe Troubleshooting

  • Metal cards or objects in case: Block the magnetic connection โ€” test MagSafe directly on phone back without case
  • Thick non-MagSafe cases: Reduce inductive efficiency โ€” use Apple MagSafe or certified thin cases
  • Dirty back or charging puck: Clean both surfaces with dry cloth
  • Phone getting hot on MagSafe: Normal to warm; if very hot, thermal protection is active โ€” charge in a cooler environment

โš™๏ธ Step 5: Optimized Battery Charging

  1. Settings โ†’ Battery โ†’ Battery Health & Charging โ†’ Optimized Battery Charging
  2. Disable temporarily to charge to 100% if stuck at 80%
  3. Or long-press the charging notification โ†’ "Charge Now" to override once

๐Ÿ”„ Step 6: Force Restart

  1. Quickly press and release Volume Up
  2. Quickly press and release Volume Down
  3. Press and hold Side button until Apple logo appears
  4. Plug in charger after reboot

๐Ÿ”‹ Step 7: Battery Health

iPhone 14 Pro launched September 2022 โ€” at 3+ years:

  1. Settings โ†’ Battery โ†’ Battery Health & Charging โ†’ Maximum Capacity
  2. Above 85%: battery healthy โ€” software fixes will help
  3. Below 80%: consider battery replacement โ€” especially if charging behavior has become erratic
