๐ Step 1: Inspect the Lightning Port
The most common cause of charging issues is debris inside the Lightning port:
- Look directly into the charging port with a flashlight at the bottom of the phone
- Check for lint, dust, pocket debris, or corrosion inside
- If you see debris, use a wooden toothpick or soft brush to gently remove it โ do NOT use metal
- Gently brush inside the port, working left to right
- Use compressed air to blow out remaining dust
- If you see white, green, or brown corrosion, the port has liquid damage
After cleaning: Try charging again. If it works, you're done.
๐ Step 2: Try a Different Lightning Cable and Power Adapter
Faulty cables cause most charging issues:
- Use a different Lightning cable โ borrow one if needed
- Try a different power adapter (20W or higher recommended)
- Test with a powered USB hub or computer USB port
- Try multiple outlets in your home
Does it charge with a different cable? Your cable is faulty โ replace it. If still no charge with multiple cables, continue to Step 3.
โ๏ธ Step 3: Force Restart and Check Charge Limit
Software glitches can prevent charging:
- Force restart: Press Volume Up, then Volume Down, then hold Side button until Apple logo appears
- After restart, open Settings โ Battery โ Battery Health & Charging
- Check if Charging Limit is enabled โ this prevents charging above 80%
- If enabled, toggle it OFF and wait 30 seconds
๐ฑ Step 4: Update iOS
Apple releases charging patches in iOS updates:
- Open Settings โ General โ Software Update
- Install any available updates and try charging again
๐ฅ Step 5: Check for Physical or Liquid Damage
Charging issues can indicate internal damage:
- Inspect the Lightning port for bent or misaligned pins
- Check for corrosion or oxidation inside the port
- Look for water damage indicators on SIM tray
- If the phone was dropped or wet, the charging connector or charging IC may be damaged
๐พ Step 6: Erase in DFU Mode (Last Resort)
Connect to Mac or PC and restore iOS:
- Connect iPhone 14 Pro to a Mac or PC with Lightning cable
- On Mac: Open Finder โ select device โ Restore
- Follow prompts to erase and reinstall iOS
- After restore, test charging
If charging still fails, it's a hardware issue.
