iPhone 14 Pro Max Camera Not Working

The iPhone 14 Pro Max has four cameras. If one or all show a black screen or "cannot take photo" error, it's usually software or hardware. Here's how to fix it.

๐Ÿ”„ Step 1: Force Restart and Test Each Camera

Most camera issues are software glitches:

  1. Force restart: Press Volume Up, then Volume Down, then hold Side button until Apple logo appears
  2. Open Camera app and test each lens: 0.5x (ultra-wide), 1x (wide), 3x (telephoto), and flip (front)
  3. Does one camera work but others don't? Connector issue.
  4. Do all fail? Possible sensor issue.

If all work now: You're done. If not, continue.

๐Ÿงน Step 2: Clean the Lenses

Dirty lenses are the most common hardware issue:

  1. Locate all four camera lenses on the back in the camera bump
  2. Use a soft microfiber cloth to gently wipe each lens
  3. If smudged, breathe on the lens to create condensation, then wipe
  4. Check for internal fogging โ€” if seen, the seal is broken
  5. Test camera again after cleaning

๐Ÿ“ฑ Step 3: Update iOS

  1. Open Settings โ†’ General โ†’ Software Update
  2. Install any available updates
  3. Test cameras again

โš™๏ธ Step 4: Reset Camera Permissions

  1. Open Settings โ†’ Privacy & Security โ†’ Camera
  2. Is Camera app toggled ON? If not, toggle it ON
  3. Toggle OFF, wait 10 seconds, toggle ON
  4. Go to Settings โ†’ General โ†’ Transfer or Reset โ†’ Reset All Settings
  5. Test Camera app again

๐Ÿฅ Step 5: Check for Damage

  1. Inspect camera module for cracks or physical damage
  2. Look inside the bump for liquid or deposits
  3. Check SIM tray for red/pink liquid contact indicators
  4. If damaged, camera connector or sensor may need service

๐Ÿ’พ Step 6: Try Third-Party Camera Apps

  1. Download a third-party camera app (ProCamera, Halide)
  2. Do all cameras work in the third-party app?
  3. If yes, it's a stock app issue; if no, it's hardware
