iPhone 14 Pro Max Camera Not Working
The iPhone 14 Pro Max has four cameras. If one or all show a black screen or "cannot take photo" error, it's usually software or hardware. Here's how to fix it.

๐ Step 1: Force Restart and Test Each Camera
Most camera issues are software glitches:
- Force restart: Press Volume Up, then Volume Down, then hold Side button until Apple logo appears
- Open Camera app and test each lens: 0.5x (ultra-wide), 1x (wide), 3x (telephoto), and flip (front)
- Does one camera work but others don't? Connector issue.
- Do all fail? Possible sensor issue.
If all work now: You're done. If not, continue.

๐งน Step 2: Clean the Lenses
Dirty lenses are the most common hardware issue:
- Locate all four camera lenses on the back in the camera bump
- Use a soft microfiber cloth to gently wipe each lens
- If smudged, breathe on the lens to create condensation, then wipe
- Check for internal fogging โ if seen, the seal is broken
- Test camera again after cleaning
๐ฑ Step 3: Update iOS
- Open Settings โ General โ Software Update
- Install any available updates
- Test cameras again
โ๏ธ Step 4: Reset Camera Permissions
- Open Settings โ Privacy & Security โ Camera
- Is Camera app toggled ON? If not, toggle it ON
- Toggle OFF, wait 10 seconds, toggle ON
- Go to Settings โ General โ Transfer or Reset โ Reset All Settings
- Test Camera app again
๐ฅ Step 5: Check for Damage
- Inspect camera module for cracks or physical damage
- Look inside the bump for liquid or deposits
- Check SIM tray for red/pink liquid contact indicators
- If damaged, camera connector or sensor may need service
๐พ Step 6: Try Third-Party Camera Apps
- Download a third-party camera app (ProCamera, Halide)
- Do all cameras work in the third-party app?
- If yes, it's a stock app issue; if no, it's hardware
