🔍 Step 1: Identify the Symptom
- No charging indicator: Cable, adapter, port, or deeply depleted battery
- "This accessory may not be supported": Non-MFi Lightning cable — replace
- Stuck at 80%: Optimized Battery Charging — intentional
- MagSafe clicking on/off: Metal in case or thick case reducing alignment
- Charges wired but not MagSafe: MagSafe-specific issue — focus on that path
🧹 Step 2: Clean the Lightning Port
4+ years old means lint accumulation is likely in the Lightning port:
- Power off completely
- Wooden or plastic toothpick only — never metal
- Flashlight inspection — dense grey/brown lint at the port back
- Gently scrape lint toward the opening
- Compressed air to clear residue
- Cable should now click in firmly
🔌 Step 3: Test Cable and Adapter
- Try a different MFi-certified Lightning cable
- Use a 20W USB-C PD adapter minimum for fast charging
- Try a different wall outlet

- Metal items in case: Remove case, test MagSafe directly on phone back

- Disable temporarily to charge to 100%, or long-press charging notification → "Charge Now"
🔄 Step 6: Force Restart and iOS Update
Force restart: Volume Up → Volume Down → hold Side button until Apple logo.
iOS update: Settings → General → Software Update. Keeps charging management current.

- Settings → Battery → Battery Health & Charging → Maximum Capacity
- Below 80% at 4 years: battery replacement recommended
