iPhone 12 Not Turning On

🔍 Step 1: Determine the Type of Black Screen

• Completely unresponsive (no vibration, no sounds): Dead battery, hardware issue, or deep software crash
• Screen black but phone vibrates or plays sounds: Screen failure (backlight or LCD/OLED issue), not a power problem
• Screen on but stuck on Apple logo: Software/firmware issue — proceed to DFU restore
• Phone gets warm when plugged in but won't boot: Battery charging — wait longer before attempting force restart
• Happened after a drop: Hardware damage — skip to professional repair assessment

🔌 Step 2: Charge the Battery First

A completely depleted battery won't show any response immediately when plugged in — not even the charging indicator:

1. Plug into a known-good charger (Lightning cable + adapter, or MagSafe)
2. Use a 20W or higher adapter — a 5W cube may not be enough to restart a fully dead iPhone 12
3. Wait at least 15-20 minutes before attempting to power on
4. After 15 minutes, try force restart (Step 3)
5. If still no response after 30 minutes, try a different cable and adapter

🔄 Step 3: Force Restart

A force restart bypasses the software and directly triggers a hardware reboot cycle. This resolves the majority of iPhone 12 black screen issues:

1. Quickly press and release the Volume Up button
2. Quickly press and release the Volume Down button
3. Press and hold the Side button — keep holding even if nothing seems to happen
4. Hold for up to 10-15 seconds until the Apple logo appears on screen
5. Release the Side button

If the Apple logo appears, your phone is booting — wait for it to complete the boot process (can take 1-3 minutes if recovering from a deep crash).
