🔍 Step 1: Diagnose the Problem
- No charging indicator: Cable, adapter, or depleted battery
- "Not Charging" in status bar: Adapter wattage below screen-on power draw
- Charges slowly: Low-wattage adapter — upgrade to 20W+
- Stuck at 80%: Optimized Battery Charging — intentional

⚡ Step 2: Charger Requirements
iPad Air M2 battery sizes:
- 11-inch M2 Air: 28.65Wh — minimum 18W USB-C PD; comfortable at 20-30W
- 13-inch M2 Air: 36.59Wh — minimum 20W USB-C PD; recommend 30W+
- 5W phone charger: "Not Charging" with display active on both sizes
- Fast charging: Both support up to 35W fast charging via USB-C PD
🔌 Step 3: USB-C Cable
- Use the cable included with your iPad Air M2 — rated for full Power Delivery
- Look for cables labeled USB-C PD rated at 60W+
- Avoid thin/generic USB-C cables — may cap at 5-7.5W regardless of adapter
- Try a completely different cable to isolate cable failure
🧹 Step 4: Clean the USB-C Port
- Power off the iPad Air M2
- Wooden or plastic toothpick only — never metal
- Inspect with flashlight for debris at port back
- Gently scrape out, then compressed air
- Cable should seat firmly with no wobble
⚙️ Step 5: Optimized Battery Charging
- Settings → Battery → Battery Health → Optimized Battery Charging
- Disable temporarily if stuck at 80% and need 100% now
🔄 Step 6: Force Restart
iPad Air M2 (no Home button, Touch ID in top button):
- Quickly press and release Volume Up
- Quickly press and release Volume Down
- Press and hold Top button until Apple logo
- Plug in charger after boot and check status bar
📲 Step 7: iPadOS Update
Settings → General → Software Update. iPad Air M2 launched with iPadOS 17 — keep updated for charging fixes.
