iPad Air 5th Generation (M1, 2022) Screen Replacement Guide

The iPad Air 5 brings Apple's M1 chip to the Air line with the same beautiful 10.9-inch edge-to-edge display as the Air 4. Screen replacement follows a similar process with some cable differences.

⏱️ 1.5-2 hours 💪 Very Difficult 💰 $120-200 in parts
⚠️ Advanced Repair Warning:
  • Laminated display — LCD and glass are fused together
  • Thin bezels — very easy to crack during removal
  • M1 internal layout — slightly different cable routing than Air 4
  • Professional repair strongly recommended

📋 Repair Process

The repair process is nearly identical to the iPad Air 4:

  1. Power off and heat edges thoroughly
  2. Separate adhesive with ultra-thin picks, working slowly
  3. Lift display from bottom (cables at top)
  4. Disconnect battery before display cables
  5. Disconnect display cables and remove old screen
  6. Clean frame and apply new adhesive
  7. Connect new display and test before sealing
  8. Seal and power on

See our iPad Air 4 guide for detailed steps — the process is essentially the same.

⚠️ M1 Specific Notes

  • The M1 chip's power efficiency doesn't affect the repair process
  • Internal layout is virtually identical to Air 4
  • Center Stage camera is at the top — don't damage it during removal
  • 5G models have additional antenna lines — be careful near edges
