Cellular connectivity on your Apple Watch lets you make calls and use data without your iPhone nearby. When cellular stops working, it's frustrating—but most issues are carrier-related or software-based, not hardware.

Verify Your Carrier Plan

First, confirm your carrier actually includes Apple Watch cellular in your plan.

Contact your carrier (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc.) and verify:

Some carriers require adding a separate line for your watch. Others bundle it with your phone plan. Confirm the exact setup with your carrier before troubleshooting further.

Pro tip: Some older carriers don't support Apple Watch cellular yet. Check your carrier's official website for watch compatibility.

Toggle Cellular Off and On

Sometimes the cellular radio just needs a reset.

On your watch: Swipe up from the bottom to open Control Center. Look for a radio tower icon labeled Cellular. Tap it to turn off, wait 5 seconds, then tap again to turn on. Your watch will search for the cellular network.

Check Cellular Signal

Apple Watch cellular uses different bands than your iPhone. You might have good iPhone signal but poor watch signal depending on location.

On your watch: Check the top of the screen for signal bars next to the radio tower icon. Weak or no signal? Move to a different location (outdoors, near a window) where signal is stronger and test again.

Reset Network Settings

Corrupted network cache prevents cellular reconnection.

On your watch: Go to SettingsGeneralResetReset Network Settings. This erases saved Wi-Fi networks and cellular data. You'll need to reconnect to Wi-Fi and your carrier will re-provision cellular when you restart.

Unpair and Re-pair Your Watch

A complete unpair resets all wireless configurations, including cellular.

On your iPhone Watch app: Go to GeneralResetErase Apple Watch Content and Settings. After the watch erases, set it up again as new. During setup, your carrier will re-provision cellular.

Turnaround: Takes 20–30 minutes, but often fixes stubborn cellular issues.

Update watchOS

Cellular bugs are fixed in watchOS updates. Outdated versions might have known connectivity issues.

On your iPhone Watch app: Go to GeneralSoftware Update. Install any available updates.
