Apple Watch Series 9 bands use the magnetic closure and quick-release design, making replacement one of the easiest watch customizations. Unlike older models, Series 9 doesn't require tools—just your fingers and 30 seconds.
Series 9 uses Apple's proprietary quick-release connector. All bands are 41mm or 45mm (case-size dependent).
Look at the inside of your watch band where it connects to the watch case. You'll see a small rectangular button or pin near the connection point. This is the quick-release mechanism.
Press and hold this button firmly. You may need to apply consistent pressure—don't be afraid to press firmly. The connector should disengage from the case after 1-2 seconds of pressure.
While holding the release button, gently slide the band away from the watch case. It should slide smoothly—if it's stuck, release pressure and try again. You may hear or feel a subtle click as it releases.
Take your new band and align the connector pins with the watch case openings. The pins should slide into the recesses on either side of the case.
Slide the band firmly into the connector until you feel or hear a click. This indicates the magnetic connector has engaged. Gently tug the band to confirm it's secure—it should not slide off.
Wrap the band around your wrist and adjust tightness as needed. Ensure the watch sits comfortably—not too tight, not too loose. You should fit one finger between the watch and your wrist.
Solution: Check that the connector pins are aligned with the case openings. Try again with firm, steady pressure. If still stuck, clean both the connector and case opening with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust or debris.
Solution: The magnetic connector may not be fully engaged. Remove the band and reinsert it, listening for a clear click. If it continues to fail, the connector may be damaged—contact Apple Support.
Solution: The button may be recessed. Use your fingernail or a soft plastic tool to press the button. Avoid metal—you could scratch the case.
Apple Stores and authorized repair centers can replace bands for free if you purchase from them, or for ~$10-15 if you bring your own band.
