AirPods Pro Not Connecting - How to Fix

AirPods Pro won't connect or keep disconnecting? These fixes work for AirPods Pro 1st and 2nd generation.

๐Ÿ”„ Fix #1: Put AirPods Back and Retry

  1. Put both AirPods back in the charging case
  2. Close the lid and wait 15 seconds
  3. Open the lid near your iPhone
  4. Check if the pairing animation appears

๐Ÿ“ฑ Fix #2: Toggle Bluetooth Off/On

  1. Go to Settings โ†’ Bluetooth
  2. Toggle Bluetooth OFF
  3. Wait 10 seconds
  4. Toggle Bluetooth ON
  5. Try connecting your AirPods again

๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ Fix #3: Forget and Re-pair

  1. Go to Settings โ†’ Bluetooth
  2. Find your AirPods in the device list
  3. Tap the (i) icon next to them
  4. Tap Forget This Device
  5. Put AirPods in case, close lid, wait 30 seconds
  6. Open lid near iPhone and pair fresh

๐Ÿ” Fix #4: Reset Your AirPods Pro

This is the most effective fix for persistent connection issues:

  1. Put both AirPods in the charging case
  2. Close the lid and wait 30 seconds
  3. Open the lid
  4. On iPhone: Settings โ†’ Bluetooth โ†’ Forget This Device
  5. With the lid open, press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for 15 seconds
  6. The status light will flash amber, then white
  7. Release the button and re-pair with your iPhone

โฌ†๏ธ Fix #5: Update Firmware

AirPods update automatically, but you can encourage it:

  1. Connect AirPods to your iPhone
  2. Put them in the case with the lid open
  3. Place the case near your iPhone
  4. Connect to Wi-Fi and power
  5. Wait 30 minutes โ€” updates happen silently

Check version: Settings โ†’ Bluetooth โ†’ (i) next to AirPods โ†’ Firmware Version

๐Ÿ”ง Fix #6: Reset Network Settings

If multiple Bluetooth devices have issues:

  • Settings โ†’ General โ†’ Transfer or Reset iPhone โ†’ Reset โ†’ Reset Network Settings
  • This resets Wi-Fi passwords and Bluetooth pairings
  • Re-pair your AirPods after the reset

๐Ÿงน Fix #7: Clean the AirPods and Case

Debris can interfere with charging and connections:

  • Clean the charging contacts on both AirPods
  • Clean inside the case where AirPods sit
  • Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth
  • A dry cotton swab works for tight spaces

If none of the above works:

  • One AirPod not connecting โ€” That AirPod may be defective
  • Case not charging โ€” Charging contacts may be damaged
  • Random disconnects โ€” Could be Bluetooth hardware issue in AirPods or iPhone
