When to Replace Ear Tips
- Ear tips feel hard or brittle (lost elasticity)
- Fit test failing (was passing before)
- Sound quality degrading despite working AirPods
- Visible cracks, tears, or discoloration
- After 6-12 months of regular use (normal wear)
- If you've lost one ear tip
What You'll Need
Essential:
✓ New AirPods Pro ear tips (comes with AirPods Pro)
✓ Or: replacement ear tips (available for purchase separately)
✓ Clean, dry hands
No tools needed. Ear tips are designed for easy removal and installation.
Step 1: Remove Old Ear Tips
Time: 1 minute • Difficulty: Very easy
Step 1: Hold AirPod gently in one hand
Step 2: Firmly grip the ear tip with thumb and index finger
Step 3: Roll your fingers slightly to loosen the connection
Step 4: Pull straight down steadily (don't twist or yank)
Step 5: The ear tip should slide off cleanly
Step 6: Repeat for second AirPod
Important: Be firm but gentle. Don't pull at an angle or twist. Straight pulling works best.
Step 2: Inspect the Earbud
Check the connection point
Step 1: Look at the bottom of the AirPod (where ear tip connects)
Step 2: You'll see a small metal ring and rubber/silicone connection point
Step 3: Gently wipe with a dry cloth if there's any debris
Step 4: Do NOT use liquid — keep connection dry
Step 5: Inspect for any damage or cracks
Step 3: Choose the Right Size
AirPods Pro come with 3 sizes: Small, Medium, Large
Small ear tips: For smaller ear canals (usually tighter fit)
Medium ear tips: Most common size (came pre-installed on your AirPods)
Large ear tips: For larger ear canals (wider, deeper insertion)
How to tell your size:
1. Run the Fit Test in Settings → Bluetooth → AirPods Pro → Fit Test
2. If it says "Good Seal," you've found your size
3. Try different sizes until you get a "Good Seal" result
4. Most people wear Medium, but don't assume!
Step 4: Install New Ear Tips
Time: 2 minutes • Difficulty: Very easy
Step 1: Hold the AirPod in one hand (speaker side facing up)
Step 2: Take a new ear tip of your chosen size
Step 3: Align the ear tip's opening with the AirPod's speaker nozzle
Step 4: Gently push straight down until you feel it click or snap into place
Step 5: You should hear/feel a satisfying click (soft but definite)
Step 6: Gently tug the ear tip to make sure it's secure
Step 7: Repeat for the second AirPod
Important: Don't force it. If resistance is high, you may have misaligned the tip. Gently twist slightly to align and try again.
Step 5: Run Fit Test
Verify your new fit is correct
Step 1: Settings → Bluetooth
Step 2: Tap AirPods Pro
Step 3: Scroll down and tap "Fit Test"
Step 4: Follow the on-screen prompts (usually involves tapping your ear)
Step 5: Wait for results — should say "Good Seal" for each ear
Step 6: If "No Seal" or "Weak Seal": try a different size
The Fit Test ensures your ear tips create a proper seal for noise cancellation and sound quality.
Tips for Success
- ✓ Take your time — rushing causes misalignment
- ✓ Ensure hands are clean and dry
- ✓ Don't remove all four tips at once (risk of losing them)
- ✓ Keep original ear tips in case you want to revert
- ✓ If "No Seal," try a different size — don't assume the original size is correct for new tips
- ✓ New tips may feel slightly different at first (normal break-in period)
Troubleshooting
Ear tip won't stay on
- Make sure it's fully inserted (should click/snap into place)
- Try a different size (might be too loose)
- Check that the connection point on AirPod isn't damaged
Fit test says "No Seal"
- Try the next size up or down
- Make sure tip is fully seated (push gently)
- Clean the connection point on the AirPod (dry cloth only)
- Try inserting at a slightly different angle
Sound sounds muffled with new tips
- Normal during first hour (new silicone material)
- Run Fit Test to confirm proper seal
- Try the next size if it's too loose
Where to Buy Replacement Ear Tips
