Lost an ear tip? Need a better fit? AirPods Pro ear tips are easy to replace and make a huge difference in sound quality and Active Noise Cancellation. Here's everything you need to know.

⏱️ 2 minutes 💪 Very Easy 🎧 All AirPods Pro models

🎧 Compatibility

This guide covers ear tip replacement for:

  • AirPods Pro (1st generation) - 2019
  • AirPods Pro (2nd generation) - 2022-2024
⚠️ Important: AirPods Pro 1st and 2nd gen use DIFFERENT ear tip sizes. Make sure you buy the correct generation. 2nd gen tips have XS size option.

📏 Ear Tip Sizes

Size Best For Notes
XS (2nd gen only) Very small ear canals New for 2nd gen
Small Smaller ear canals Often fits women better
Medium Most people Comes pre-installed
Large Larger ear canals Best seal for some users

You can use different sizes in each ear - it's common!

📋 Step-by-Step Replacement

Step 1: Remove Old Ear Tip

Firmly grip the silicone ear tip at its base (where it connects to the AirPod). Pull straight outward with a firm, steady motion. The tip will pop off.

💡 Tip: Don't twist - pull straight off. The connector is oval-shaped and only fits one way.

Step 2: Inspect the Speaker Mesh

While the ear tip is off, check the speaker mesh for earwax buildup. Clean gently with a dry cotton swab if needed.

Step 3: Align New Ear Tip

Look at the connector on the new ear tip - it's oval-shaped. Match it up with the oval opening on the AirPod. The wider part of the oval should face the outer edge of the AirPod.

Step 4: Push Until Click

Press the ear tip firmly onto the AirPod until you hear/feel a click. Give it a gentle tug to confirm it's secure.

Step 5: Run Ear Tip Fit Test

This is crucial for optimal sound and ANC:

  1. Put AirPods in your ears
  2. Open Settings on your iPhone
  3. Tap your AirPods at the top
  4. Tap Ear Tip Fit Test
  5. Tap Play and stay still for 5 seconds

You should see "Good Seal" for both ears. If not, try a different size.

✅ Signs You Need New Ear Tips

  • AirPods keep falling out
  • Poor Active Noise Cancellation
  • Weak bass or hollow sound
  • Ear Tip Fit Test shows "Adjust or Try a Different Ear Tip"
  • Tips are torn, discolored, or lost
  • Tips no longer click securely onto AirPods

🛒 Where to Buy Replacement Ear Tips

  • Apple: $7.99 for a set of 2 (one size) - Genuine quality
  • Amazon: $5-15 for multi-packs - Read reviews carefully
  • Third-party foam tips: $15-25 - Better isolation, comfort varies
💡 Pro Tip: Memory foam ear tips (like Comply or Dekoni) provide better noise isolation than silicone, but need replacing more often.
