The AirPods Pro Ear Tip Fit Test ensures you have the right seal for ANC and sound quality. When it fails, ANC won't work properly. Here's how to pass.

Try All 4 Ear Tip Sizes

AirPods Pro come with 4 sizes: XS, S, M, L. Most people need M or L, not the default included set.

Remove the current tips by gently pulling each tip off the speaker. Swap them with a different size. Insert firmly and twist slightly to seat them properly. Run the Ear Tip Fit Test again (SettingsBluetooth → tap info → Ear Tip Fit Test).

Trend: Larger ear canals often need L or XL tips. If you're between sizes, pick the larger one.

Correct Insertion Method

Many users insert tips wrong. Here's the right way:

The tip should feel snug but not painful. If it feels loose, try the next size up.

Check for Wax or Debris

Earwax on the ear tip reduces seal. Clean the tip with a dry cloth before reinserting.

Test with Aftermarket Ear Tips

Some people's ear canal shapes don't match Apple's tip geometry. Third-party foam or custom ear tips (like from Comply or Dekoni) sometimes provide better fit.

Note: Using non-Apple tips might void warranty, but they work well for poor fit situations.

Why Ear Tip Fit Matters for ANC

A proper seal is essential for Active Noise Cancellation to work. Without it, ANC can't create the phase-inverted sound wave needed to cancel noise. A failed fit test means ANC will be weak.

If You Still Can't Pass the Test

If you've tried all sizes and insertion methods, your ear canal shape might not match Apple's tip design. In that case:

Note: The fit test is subjective—if you're getting a decent seal and ANC works acceptably, don't obsess over a failed test result.
