🔧 Fix AirPods Won't Charge: Step by Step
Step 1: Clean the Charging Contacts
Dirty contacts are the #1 cause. Look at the bottom of each AirPod stem and inside the case at the magnetic charge points. You'll see small gold pins.
- Remove AirPods from case
- Wipe each charging contact (on stems AND inside case) with a dry microfiber cloth
- For stuck-on residue, use a cotton swab very lightly damp with 99% isopropyl alcohol
- Let air-dry 1 minute, then place AirPods back in case
Step 2: Try a Different Cable + Adapter
Cheap or counterfeit cables fail more than the case. Use a known-good Apple-branded MFi cable. Test in 2 different outlets.
Step 3: Test Wireless Charging (if compatible)
If your case supports wireless charging (most do): place on a Qi pad. If wireless works but wired doesn't, your case's port is dead — replacement case is $99 from Apple.
Step 4: Forget + Re-Pair on iPhone
Sometimes the firmware gets stuck. Settings → Bluetooth → tap (i) next to AirPods → Forget This Device. Then place case near iPhone with lid open and re-pair.

1Check Audio Balance (Most Overlooked Setting)
iOS has a hidden left/right audio balance slider — if it's off-center, one earbud will be much quieter or silent:
- Go to Settings → Accessibility → Audio/Visual
- Look at the Balance slider — it should be exactly centered at 0
- If it's moved to L or R, drag it back to center
2Check Each AirPod's Battery Level
- Open the AirPods case near your iPhone — a battery pop-up appears
- Or open Settings → Bluetooth → tap the (i) next to your AirPods
- Check the battery % for Left, Right, and Case separately

3Clean the Speaker Mesh

- Look at the speaker mesh at the tip of the AirPod — visible wax buildup?
- Use a dry cotton swab to gently wipe the mesh
- For stubborn buildup, use a dry soft-bristle toothbrush — brush lightly in one direction
- Never use water, alcohol, or liquids near AirPods
- For AirPods Pro: remove the silicone ear tip first, clean the mesh underneath
4Put Both AirPods in the Case and Reconnect
- Place both AirPods in the case
- Close the lid — wait 30 seconds
- Open the lid near your iPhone
- This forces both AirPods to re-sync with the case and re-pair together
5Forget and Re-Pair AirPods
- Go to Settings → Bluetooth → tap (i) next to your AirPods → Forget This Device
- Place both AirPods in the case, close the lid
