🛠️ How to Update AirPods Firmware

AirPods update automatically — you can't manually trigger an update. But you can encourage it:

For AirPods and AirPods Pro:

  1. Put AirPods in the charging case
  2. Connect the case to power (Lightning/USB-C cable)
  3. Place your iPhone nearby (connected to WiFi)
  4. Leave them for at least 30 minutes
  5. Don't open the case during this time

For AirPods Max:

  1. Connect AirPods Max to power via Lightning cable
  2. Place iPhone nearby (connected to WiFi)
  3. Leave them charging for 30+ minutes
⏰ When Do Updates Install?
  • Updates install automatically when conditions are met
  • Usually happens when you're not actively using them
  • Requires: charging + iPhone nearby + WiFi connection
  • May take several hours or overnight
  • No notification when update completes

🔄 Tips to Encourage Update

  1. Make sure iPhone has the latest iOS version
  2. Keep AirPods case charging overnight near your iPhone
  3. Ensure iPhone is connected to WiFi (not just cellular)
  4. Forget and re-pair AirPods if update seems stuck
  5. Check firmware version the next day
